Game Design Corrections 1
Hello,
As usual, after releasing a jam project, I end up watching a lot of people play. I always end up noticing design flaws that I would like to correct. I decided to write some postmortem logs with issues I found and possible fixes.
In the game, the player can place flags and then strike a numbered box in order to clear adjacent boxes. However, it is easy to accidentally trigger this, or miss the number entirely and strike an unknown block, possibly causing the player to take damage.
To fix this issue, I think that striking the numbered blocks should be tied to a completely different key binding. Instead of striking numbered blocks, players could instead jump vertically and ground pound a block, with a single input. The ground pound would interact with the surrounding block, clearing all undiscovered non-flagged boxes.
Since clearing boxes is kind of an advanced move, it would make sense to tie the new ground pound ability to a new unlockable item: The spring boot.
I will post more postmortem logs as I get more feedback and can observe more play testing.
