day 14 - sound
Hi there
This has been another day with little time for the project for me. There is this University assignment that is kind of kicking my ass XP Fortunately the deadline is tomorrow.
I still found some time for the project tho. I knew I didn't have too much energy, so I decided to do something simple, and added sounds to some player interaction. Nothing fancy I just downloaded some royalty free sound effects from https://freesound.org/ and made them sound a bit less intrusive on Audacity, it was my first time actually editing sound for a game. I tried to make the sounds quick and not too loud or obnoxious, since the player will have to hear them a lot.
While playing around, I did change something small yet significant to the controls. Originally after shooting the player would be able to shoot again after a small cooldown. Since the weapon here is a shotgun, I wanted to have that iconic pump action sound. But having to reload sound play automatically didn't feel quite right. I changed so that after a shot, the player can reload by pressing the shoot input again. I find this way more satisfying. I do however imagine that if a player forgets to reload at the end of an encounter, it might be annoying to fire a blank, I might add a feature where if the player forgets to reload for a few seconds it reloads automatically.
